Year: 2015, Volume:1, Issue : 12
Pages: 7 - 12
An attempt was made to investigate the potential of TiO2-AC material as an alternative low cost adsorbent for the removal of MG from aqueous solution. TiO2-AC composite material was prepared by refluxing activated carbon and TiO2 at 60ºC for 12hours. It found that the prepared TiO2-AC composite exhibits an enhanced photocatalytic activity for MG degradation under visible light irradiation and its photo catalysis efficiency was analyzed in specific 618 nm λmax using a UV–vis spectrophotometer. The reaction was performed at 60, 80,100 ppm solution at 15 min interval of time. The surface morphology and functional group present in the TiO2-AC material was characterized by using SEM, FT-IR and XRD. The result reveals that the TiO2-AC structure consists of irregular aggregates with rough surfaces and high photodegradation activities of TiO2-AC on MG solutions are found to be at 60ppm.

Pages: 13 - 17
Speech is the most innate and fastest means of communication between humans. Computers with the ability to understand speech and speak with a human like voice are expected to contribute to the development of more natural man-machine interface. There has been a significant amount of research in the field of speech signal processing, and numerous models have been devised so far, but since harmonic plus noise model (HNM) proves to be a more promising of all the existing ones, this paper describes the application of HNM for analysis-synthesizes of children voice . For the analysis of speech signal we have carried out the recording of 7 children speakers (3 male and 4 female) in Dogri language between the age group of 3-6 years. Harmonic plus noise model HNM has been employed as the analysis-synthesis platform as it outperforms almost all models of speech production in terms of important characteristics like naturalness, intelligibility, and pleasantness. PESQ method is used for evaluation of the quality of the speech synthesized from HNM. Mean and standard deviation (SD) is estimated for original and synthesized speech. Effect of the proportion of noise on the quality and intelligibility of speech signal of children has been investigated at different levels of noise keeping voice part constant. Results suggest that the quality of the children speech increases gradually until the value of noise part is 50% and remains constant till the noise part reaches a percentage of 70%. However as the noise percentage is increased the quality shows a slight decrease but remains constant afterwards. The optimum percentage of noise part for good speech quality has been found to be same for both male and female children speakers. Effect of different proportion of voice part on the quality and intelligibility of speech signal of children has been investigated at different levels of noise keeping noise part constant. Results suggest that the quality is quite poor at lower levels of voice part but increases gradually until the value of voice part is 50%. However as the voice percentage is increased the quality remains constant afterwards (till v100%). Results suggest that the percentage of voice part plays an important part for the quality of speech. With no voice part the quality is quite poor. Further the results prove that HNM is an excellent model for children speech. Also the worst and best speech quality is not same for male and female children speakers.

Race of human beings behind technology and knowledge changed his life style to that of present days. Today we consume fast food, fast transport, fast communication and fast living too. Only one factor that makes us stop in between this race is Health and it is the only one that is mostly affected. A large number of humans are being affected by many diseases and so queue in the hospital grows and delay the patients in attendance. To solve this problem, we must utilize the technology itself via efficient implementation of a system that may include a mobile processing unit. In this paper, we present such a system using smart phone based on a website. We used the concepts of Android programming to provide the information anytime and where ever the user is. Every bit of this information is stored on Web server through website.

FPGA Implementation of Median Filter Using an Improved Algorithm for Image Processing

Year: 2015, Volume:1, Issue : 12
Pages: 25 - 30
To solve the contradiction between the noise reducing effect and the time complexity of the standard median filter algorithm, this paper proposed an improved median filter algorithm. This paper focuses on a 3x3 image window filtering in which the sorting network of the filter should be able to produce the desired result within the shortest time possible. That means, the sorting network will be able to exercise parallelism in processing the image pixel and the number of the required hardware maintained minimal. The algorithm derived shows that the sorting network will be able to produce the result within the required time. The improved filter algorithm was implemented using Hardware Description Language Verilog, simulated using Xilinx isim and was loaded on to Xilinx FPGA. The hardware result showed that this proposed algorithm has better output result as compared to standard median algorithm as well as adaptive median algorithm. It has a good application prospect in real-time image processing.

The development of continuous casting to produce semi-finished products is now so far advanced that almost any grade of steel can be continuously cast, and in the most appropriate cross section for further shaping. High quality finished products can only be produced by using defect free billet. The removal of defects is either performed selectively by removing the specific defect. Our Project is based on industrial research, refers to the possibility of defining and cataloguing the surface defects specific to the semi-finished products continuously cast, in order to discover the generating source and to take the proper measures to prevent and remedy them where appropriate. We studied the various processes in the industry and done a project to improve the quality of billets, and thereby reducing the major loss of the company. The main problem faced by the industry is the defects caused during casting of the billets. The defectives can only be re-used as scrap, which is the major loss of the industry. Root causes of these defects and solutions recommended are analysed for each case. We suggested a field mixing technology for the mixing of molten metal in correct proportion so that it reduces about 75% of its defects. Also we suggested other methods to improve the quality of billets.

Year: 2015, Volume:1, Issue : 12
Pages: 47 - 54
Extended surfaces commonly known as fins, offer an economical and trouble free solutions in many situations demanding natural convection heat transfer. Heat sinks in the form of fin arrays horizontal and vertical surfaces used in variety of engineering applications, studies of heat transfer and fluid flow associated with such arrays are of considerable engineering significance. The main controlling variable generally available to designer is geometry of fin arrays. Considering the above fact natural convection heat transfer from triangular fin arrays have been investigated experimentally and theoretically. Fin optimization is useful to go through the exercise of optimizing a fin in order to achieve the high rate of heat transfer per volume of fin material. The result of this optimization provides general guidelines relative to the dimensionless characteristics of a well-designed fin.

Year: 2015, Volume:1, Issue : 12
Pages: 57 - 61
This paper presents highly robust space time block coded (STBC) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system. This has been very popular in long term evolution (LTE) and LTE-A (LTE-Advanced) plans. STBC along with MIMO has tremendous potential for link reliability in physical layer. Also looking at various methods of combining signals at receiver gives motivation to the use of MIMO in LTE systems. This work discusses the combinations of multiple antennas at either transmitter and or receiver and shows that increase in number of antennas gives rise to bit error rate (BER) which is one of the important measure of link reliability. To show the conclusion, comparison has been done among the system having one transmit and multiple receive antennas and one receive and multiple transmit antennas. It is found that multiple antennas provide diversity gain and as the number of antennas increases either in transmitter or in receiver side, it provides diversity gain. This greatly improves the performance of wireless communication channel in Rayleigh faded environment.
