  An automotive disc brake is a device which creates resistance to the motion of wheel under running conditions. The basic function of disc brake is to stop or slow down the motion of wheel by applying frictional force through calliper assembly. During this process kinetic energy converts in heat energy and dissipate into surrounding atmosphere. The conversion of energy results in speed retardation, and brings the vehicle in steady state. The heat dissipation properties during actuation have significant impact on the brake performance. During operation the high stresses are built up, results in wear and fading. The performance parameters can be improved by considering thermal characteristics of disc brake materials. The objective of this study is to investigate, under extreme working conditions, the thermochemical behaviour of different brake rotors in order to evaluate their efficiency and stability, also to identify any compromising weakness on them. In this paper the investigation is done by considering different material used for brake disc manufacturing and the thermal behaviour of the same in loading condition analysis of different shapes with different material of disc rotor.

  Recently multilevel inverters are emerged as very important factor in high power and medium voltage application. Number of inverter topologies have been introduced and used for various applications. Among these inverters cascaded MLI is used because of its advantages over other MLIs. Different control techniques are available to control these inverters. Simulation outputs of three phase five level cascaded H-Bridge, Diode clamped, Flying capacitor MLIs are analyzed in MATLAB software.

  Everyone is thinking about digital world. Science and Technology both trying to make human life easier. Blindness is a characteristic, not a disability or defect. Navigating in an unknown environment poses a great difficulty for the visually challenged people. They are dependent for any type of movement. To overcome this smart product is proposed that can be attached to white cane. White cane will help the user with obstacle detection, real time location tracking of the blind, support intimation in case of emergencies and some voice control features. It consists of various sensors to perceive the environment and give haptic feedbacks. The product connects with an Android application via Bluetooth. The main aim is to provide a reliable, safe, affordable and easy to use navigating tool to ease the lives of visually impaired people.

  In vehicle transport, driver visibility is the maximum distance at which the driver of a vehicle can see and identify prominent objects around the vehicle. Visibility is primarily determined by weather conditions and by a vehicle design. The parts of a vehicle that influence visibility include windshield, dash board and pillars. Good driver visibility is essential for safe road traffic. A blind spot in a vehicle is an area around the vehicle that cannot be directly observed by the driver while at the controls, under existing circumstances. Blind spots exist in a wide range of vehicles: cars, trucks, motorboats, sailboats and aircraft. Proper adjustment of mirrors and use of other technical solutions can eliminate or alleviate vehicle blind spots. Blind spots may occur in the front of the driver when the A-pillar (also called the windshield pillar), side view mirror, and interior rear view mirror block a driver's view of the road. Behind the driver, there are additional pillars, headrests, passengers, and cargo that may reduce visibility. As vehicles are increasing, chances of accidents also increases. One of the leading causes of accident owes to the blind spot of the vehicles. Many of the drivers including those with heavy duty vehicles complain of reduced visibility due to the presence of A-pillar. A-pillar directly hides the driver’s vision, which in many case leads to road accidents, especially while taking sharp curves. The proposed project aims at making the A-pillar transparent so that the driver could see what is happening on the other side of the road through the pillar. By replacing the conventional A-pillar by using a suitable transparent composite material, so that we can enhance the vision of the driver and hence make driving safe.

  Appam is a type of pancake made with fermented rice batter and coconut milk. It has immense scope for mass production being a common food item in restaurants and homes in South Indian states especially Kerala. The usual method of making the Appam involves pouring the required amount of batter in a pan and then spreading more or less uniformly. This traditional and manual way of preparing the Appam is tedious when it comes to mass production considering the making cost, making time and the associated energy consumption. In addition, it demands the service of skilled laborers also. Innovative automatic makers for food items such as Chapatti and Dosa are available in market even though scope for several better designs does exist for such systems. The proposed work aims at design and fabrication of an automated Appam maker for mass catering for household and restaurants by minimizing the making cost, making time and thereby improving the efficiency with optimum energy consumption ensuring better usability, safety, improved handling easiness and hygiene. The main process stages such as pouring, spreading and removal of cooked food from pan are automated by making use of motors, valves, microcontroller and sensors enabling to obtain ready to eat Appam by the press of a button without any skilled labor. Thus, by this project the unexplored area of automating Appam making process which has huge potential in South Indian food culture is being investigated to develop a Packaged Appam Maker as the product.

  An investigation was carried out to understand the effect of Mg addition on the dendritic arm spacing and hardness of A356 aluminium alloy. The effect of Mg content was assessed by melting the A356 Al alloy in a muffle furnace with the addition of varying weight percentage Mg (1, 1.5, 2.5, 3.5 % wt) and casting in both permanent metal die and sand mould. It was observed that the secondary dendritic arm spacing reduces with Mg content concluding that Mg addition improves the formation of nucleation sites and thereby results in grain refinement. The Brinell hardness tester was used to measure the hardness of the alloy. It was found that the hardness increased with Mg content and comparatively, die cast samples showed improved hardness when compared with that of sand cast samples.

  Hand brake is one of the most important component in vehicles. Conventional handbrake system works using a ratchet locking mechanism that will keep it engaged until a release button is pressed. Driver error can lead to accidents in which handbrake is not engaged. To overcome this, an Automatic Hand Brake engaging and disengaging system is proposed. The hand brake engagement and disengagement is done using a combination of rack & pinion arrangement and microcontroller. The microcontroller process signals from ignition switch which checks whether the ignition is ON or OFF, and in-turn checks the gear lever to see whether the gear is in neutral position and also checks the signal from proximity sensor to sense if the wheel is in motion. If all the conditions are satisfied, a signal is given to the motor. As the motor rotates the pinion, it causes the rack to move linearly causing the engagement of handbrake. On turning the ignition on and engaging the gear lever a spring attached to handbrake automatically disengages the handbrake.
