Comparative Study of Oxidants in Removal of Chemical Oxygen Demand from the Wastewater

Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) test involves chemical oxidation using chromic acid as a strong oxidizer. COD of a wastewater sample is the amount of oxidant- potassium dichromate that reacts with the sample when it is heated for 2 hours under controlled environmental conditions and result is expressed as mg of oxidant consumed per liter of a given sample of wastewater. COD can be helpful in determining the quantity required for dilution needed for conducting Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) five day test. In the present investigation attempts have been made to use other oxidants like hydrogen peroxide H2O2, sodium hypo-chlorite, calcium hypo-chlorite and potassium permanganate for measurement of COD by standard method and compare the results obtained using potassium dichromate as strong oxidant. Experiments were carried out for each oxidizing agent for COD removal at temperatures like 1000C, 750C and 500C. The duration of exposure time in each experimental set up was taken as temperature wise, for 1000C, it was 1-5 minutes , for 750C it was 20-40 minutes and for 500C it was 45-75 minutes. It was found that temperature plays very important role in in deciding the exposure time to be allocated for reduction of COD. The various oxidants have different oxidizing capacity at the given exposure time and temperature. When the temperature is lower and exposure time is higher the percentage reduction of COD for any given oxidant is found to be higher. Out of the five oxidants the hierarchy of each of the oxidant based on oxidizing power can be generalized as K2Cr2O7, H2 02, Kmn04, NaOCl and then Ca (OCl) 2.

Based on strategic plans, the responsibility centers depending upon the objectives, prepare the budget proposal in consonance with the coordination of all other functional departments. When budget committee approves and Board ratifies, the proposal becomes ‘Budget’.

A thin cylindrical pressure vessel has been analyzed for different end connection using analytical and finite element analysis. The main objective of this paper is to compare stress distribution over pressure vessel for end connection viz. hemispherical and flat circular. This paper designs the pressure vessel according to the pressure vessel handbook for both hemispherical and flat circular end pressure vessel so as to determine the most economic and efficient design. The various dimensions of pressure vessel like internal diameter and thickness of vessel and end connections has been decided using analytical design whose three dimensional model is prepared in modeling software Pro-Engineer 5.0 and analyzed using FE tool Ansys 12.The analysis has been carried out for two dimensional axisymmetric analysis, three dimensional horizontal pressure vessel with saddle support and vertical pressure vessel over stand.

Solid polymer electrolytes (SPEs) consisting of poly (vinyl chloride) complexed with MnSO4 have been synthesized by solution casting method. The ionic conductivity, dielectric response of the SPE system is studied within the frequency range 100 Hz – 2 MHz. The electrical conductivity was evaluated from ac impedance spectroscopy studies in the temperature range 303-363 K and the conductivity was found to increase with increasing temperature. The maximum ionic conductivity value 1.36 x10-4 S/cm has been observed for 5 mol% at 363 K using impedance spectroscopy technique. Dielectric relaxation studies of the polymer electrolyte have been undertaken and the results are discussed. It is observed that magnitude of dielectric permittivity is high in the lower frequency region due to electrode polarization (EP) effect.

The main objective of this study is to design a suitable and feasible foundation for the black cotton clay for a G+2 structure using manual and software analysis. Further cost analysis is estimated for the designed foundation.

The aim of the present paper is to study the bending behaviour of honeycomb sandwich structure made of aluminium alloy cores, through the four point bending tests. Effects of the variation in honeycomb core height and honeycomb sandwich panel skin are investigated. The honeycomb panels demonstrate an initial linear elastic behaviour which is followed by nonlinear elastic-plastic behaviour. Also the flexural behaviour of honeycomb sandwich structure was analyzed by finite element analysis. The honeycomb sandwich panel failure modes are reported and discussed.

High strength concrete is being adopted by engineers and designers worldwide. Most of the applications of high strength concrete have been found in high rise buildings, long span bridges etc. Iron is generally used as resistance of cracking and strengthening of concrete. In this project, we are going to carry out test on industrial iron waste reinforced concrete to check the compressive strength, flexural strength, split tensile strength. According to various research papers, it has been found that iron waste give the maximum strength in comparison to other waste. Hence, in this paper presents experimental study in finding out the optimum quantity of iron waste required to achieve the maximum flexural strength, compressive strength, split tensile strength for M25 grade concrete. Iron waste content was varied by 1.0%, 1.5% and 2.0% by volume of cement. Also comprised of preparing concrete cubes, beams and cylinders with and without iron waste for checking compressive strength, flexural strength and split tensile test. All the specimens were cured for the period of 7, 14 and 28 days. Before castling all specimens slump test was adopted to measure the workability of concrete. Hence a project work is planned to check the suitability of use of Industrial iron waste in developing High strength cement concrete.

Security and surveillance are the two important aspects of human being. In this paper we propose face detection and recognition system that will capable of processing images very fast while acquiring very high true positive face detection rate. Face Detection is about providing security in terms of person Identification in army area. This project aims to create one more step towards solving of this serious problem. The design is based on computer vision and embedded system application principles. This system is mainly divided into two parts. One is controller and other is face detection through MATLAB. The controller side is having a wireless modem, GSM. If criminal’s face is detected in camera then GSM modem will send message of that location to authorized mobile number. For face detection, here digital cameras are used which are connected to a computer system. The computer is having database stored in which all criminals' photos are saved. If database is matched with any of the face caught by camera then signal is sent to controller.
