The paper focuses on developing an eco-friendly sanitary napkin, with multilayer construction by using biodegradable resources. Hybrid top sheet was developed by needle punching wool fibre over cotton non-woven fabric to keep the top sheet dry. Three different combinations of core layer were tried by sandwiching SAP (Super Absorbent Polymer) sheet between cotton, bamboo and a blend of cotton/bamboo (50/50). Biodegradable polyethylene plastic was used as barrier layer. The performance of sanitary napkin was assessed by absorption capacity, strike through, wet back test. Two natural herbal extract (Curcuma longa and Azadirachta indica) were used as antimicrobial agents. It is revealed from the results that sanitary pad made of bamboo core with Azadirachta indica finished top sheet shows best menstrual hygiene performance.

In the present study an attempt was made to assess the water samples by considering few parameters such as (a) Hardness (total hardness including temporary and permanent hardness) , (b) nitrate levels and (c) analysis of some metals using flame photometry. Hardness of water was estimated by electroanalytical techniques (potentiometry and pH metry). Estimation of nitrate levels was done using nitrate sensing electrodes following the principles of potentiometry and colorimetry. Analysis of ions such as sodium and potassium was done by flame photometry.

Basically, the term self-compacting was achieved by the use of admixtures in concrete. Admixtures introduced for SCC is different from other admixtures. Many manufactures produces varieties of SCC admixtures. In this project, Structuro 203 (Manufactured by Foscroc chemicals, India) was used as a superplasticiser. The main scope behind this study was to find out the behaviour of partial replacement of rice husk 10%, 20% & 30% by fine aggregate under the various SCC test (Slump flow test, L box test and V-funnel test) and hardened concrete test (Compression test and split tensile strength) using structuro 203 superplasticiser only. For all SCC test (Slump flow test, L box test and V-funnel test), 0% rice husk proportions gives better results when compared to other proportions of rice husk (10% and 20% and 30%). Similarly for Hardened concrete test on SCC after 28 days of curing, 0% rice husk proportions gives better strength when compared to other proportions of rice husk (10% and 20% and 30%). The dosage of structure 203 adopted was 4mL per kg of cement. This dosage was found on trial and error method in fresh concrete test of SCC.

We have designed this project to control the speed of a single phase induction motor by using cycloconvertor technique by thyristors. Induction motors in particular are very robust and therefore used in many domestic appliances such as washing machines, vacuum cleaners, water pumps, and used in industries as well. A.C. motors have the great advantages of being relatively inexpensive and very reliable. The induction motor is known as a constant-speed machine, the difficulty of varying its speed by a cost effective device is one of its main disadvantages. As the AC supply frequency cannot be changed, so this project uses a thyristor controlled cycloconverter which enables the control of speed in steps for an induction motor. A pair of slide switches is provided to select the desired speed range (F, F/2 and F/3) of operation of the induction motor. These switches are interfaced to the microcontroller. The status of the switches enables the microcontroller to deliver the pulses to trigger the thyristor in a dual bridge. Thus, the speed of the induction motor can be achieved in three steps i.e. (F, F/2 and F/3). This very concept can be further enhanced and implemented to control the speed of a three phase induction motor. It can also be coupled with firing angle control for any desired speed.

This paper presents the design component aspect of a magnetically levitated vertical axis wind turbine. Using the effects of magnetic repulsion, spiral shaped wind turbine blades will be fitted on a rod for stability during rotation and suspended on magnets as a replacement for ball bearings which are normally used on conventional wind turbines. Maglev wind turbines have several advantages over conventional wind turbines. For instance, they’re able to use winds with starting speeds as low as 1.5 meters per second (m/s). Also, they could operate in winds exceeding 40 m/s. This type of wind setup does not require any significant land for installation, as its can be easily incorporated in rooftop, tower, and buildings. The VAWT is defined by an axis perpendicular to the unperturbed flow direction. It is considered that the blades carry their own weight leading to a reinforced root region. During operation the blades experience aerodynamic and inertia forces, which are deflecting the blades outwards, leading to an alternation of the aerodynamic loads. The interplay of load alternation and blade deflection could lead to a diverging flutter motion. After a fitting design is obtained, the blade motion has to be inspected for a safe use during operation.

Management of invasive alien insect, the papaya mealy bug, Paracoccus marginatus is of great importance because it even threatened tree species of economic importance. Secondary metabolites of the plants, including herbs and weeds are used as suitable alternative pesticide/insecticide and Calotropis gigantea is one of an ideal plant species for the extraction of pest resistant molecules. The present study focused on the exploration for an alternate ecofriendly plant based insecticide. The bioefficacy of the extracts of the flowers of Calotropis gigantea tested against papaya mealy bug infestation in Ailanthus excelsa found to have insecticidal activity (90-95%) at 2000 ppm within 24 hours of treatment. Individual phytochemical profiling of active botanicals revealed significant variation among pink and white colour flower for tannin, saponins, free fatty acids and alkaloids quantity. HPLC analysis also revealed high amounts of the bioactive compounds such as syringic acid, syringaldehyde and hydroxy benzoic. The insecticidal potential of the flower extracts of C. gigantea may be due to the presence of the individual phenolic compounds which are identified and quantified in significant amount.

There are mainly four series of Parallel Digital-Multipliers: Array, Vedic, Booth and Wallace series of multipliers. In this paper, a multiplier is proposed. This proposed multiplier has better performance than the other four types of series of multipliers. The proposed multiplier is actually a modified version of Wallace and Dadda multipliers. This paper presents a comparison of the proposed multiplier with these four types of series of multipliers. From each series, one multiplier which is the best among its series is selected for comparison by doing literature review of that series of multiplier. The comparison is in terms of delay, power and area. The selected multipliers with the proposed multiplier are implemented on front-end modeling using Verilog-HDL. For simulation, Modelsim is used and for synthesis and implementation Vivado is used. The target technology used for implementation is the FPGA, Z-board (xc7z020clg484-1).
