Wire cut Electrical Discharge Machining (WEDM) is a non-traditional machining process which is based on thermoelectric energy between the workpiece and an electrode. The increase in the demand of higher surface finish and increased material removal rate requires newer and better techniques which are more efficient. Wire Electrical Discharge Machining is one such type of process which can which is used to manufacture geometrically intricate shapes with great accuracy and good surface finish that are difficult to machine with the help of conventional machining processes. It works on the principle of spark erosion and is capable of machining the materials irrespective of their hardness and toughness. WEDM is used in tool and die making industries, automobiles, aerospace, nuclear, computer and electronics industries. Brass wire is used extensively as a wire electrode in WEDM. Various high performance electrodes like zinc coated, diffusion annealed, coated steel core wires etc. have been developed to satisfy the machining needs. This paper reviews the effects of various WEDM process parameters such as pulse on time, pulse off time, servo voltage, peak current, dielectric flow rate, wire speed, wire tension on different process response parameters such as material removal rate (MRR), surface roughness (Ra), wire wear ratio (WWR) and work related development in wire electrode’s materials.

Year: 2016, Volume:2, Issue : 11
Pages: 715 - 718
Black cotton soil is one of the major soil deposits of India . It is highly expansive in nature due to presence of clay minerals especially montmorillonite. It expands greatly when comes in contact with water and contracts when the water squeezes out. Due to this alternate swell and shrink behaviour of the black cotton soil , severe damages cause to foundations of the buildings and structures founded on them. Many stabilization techniques are in usage for improving the geotechnical characteristics of black cotton soil. This experimental study was undertaken to improve the engineering characteristics of black cotton soil by utilization of Quarry dust , which is a waste material produced during stone quarrying. This research paper presents the effect of quarry dust on engineering characteristics of black cotton soil . Black cotton soil samples blended with 10%, 20%,30% and 40% of quarry dust were prepared and series of laboratory experiments have been performed. The test results shows that the california bearing ratio (CBR) and compaction parameters of black cotton soil are improved with the addition of quarry dust .It is observed that the CBR values are increased from 1.75% to 7.05%, the optimum moisture content has been reduced from 21.1% to 12.6% and maximum dry density have been increased from 1.6 to 1.76gm/cc . It is also found that the expansive behaviour of black cotton soil reduced to the great extent .In this experimental study it can be concluded that the expansive behaviour of black cotton soil are reduced to a considerable extent with utilization of quarry dust.

Year: 2016, Volume:2, Issue : 11
Pages: 719 - 723
Plumbing is the system of pipes and drains installed in a building for the distribution of potable drinking water and the removal of waterborne wastes, and the skilled trade of working with pipes, tubing and plumbing fixtures in such systems. A plumber is someone who installs or repairs piping systems, plumbing fixtures and equipment such as water heaters. The plumbing industry is a basic and substantial part of every developed economy due to the need for clean water, and proper collection and transport of wastes. The word "plumbing" comes from the Latin plumbum for lead, as pipes were once made from lead.Plumbing was extremely rare until the growth of modern cities in the 19th centuries. During the same time public health authorities began pressing for better waste disposal systems to be installed. Earlier, the waste disposal system merely consisted of collecting waste and dumping it on ground or into a river.Supplying adequate water pressure at all levels of the building is critical for building occupants, although economics, basic building functions, and overall heights have significant impact on methods of water supply distribution. Numerous intermediate-height and even very tall high-rise buildings use various pumping schemes. One early method used elevated storage tanks at the top of the building with fill pumps at the bottom of the building, a classic gravity down feed arrangement. This method evolved into direct pumping systems using multiple pump packages with constant-speed, constant- pressure controls. Both of these methods proved to be reliable and affordable through the years, and many such designs are still active today or still are used in current design practices. Continuing improvements and development of variable-frequency electric drives and an ever-increasing emphasis on reducing energy consumption and costs make the variable-speed, direct-pumped package a modern workhorse of the industry. The critical need to provide adequate flow and pressure gives the high-rise plumbing engineer ample opportunity to practice their craft. A thorough understanding of pumping basics is critical to start with, and one of the most widely recognized sources is the Fluid Handling.

Year: 2016, Volume:2, Issue : 11
Pages: 724 - 729
The photovoltaic power generation is a distributed resources whose output change rapidly and resulting in voltage stability and power quality issues. To overcome the voltage stability and power quality issues “FACTS†devices are used to integrate the solar power in the grid-connected mode. In this stability can be improved by STATCOM, for balanced grid voltage dips. The investigation of PV system in combination with STATCOM for unbalanced grid voltage dips faults are carried out .STATCOM has been identified to provide the best dynamic stability enhancement capabilities. STATCOM ensures maximum fault ride through enhancement of the STATCOM system by compensating voltage. MPPT technique is proposed here to track maximum power from the PV panel. Here the fluctuations and the ripples are reduced using STATCOM. The STATCOM used to improve the stability and quality of power. In this thesis the SVC is replaced with STATCOM control technique to reduce fluctuations more. STATCOM increases the high stability compared to SVC. The MATLAB R2013 software is used and theoretical analysis is verified by simulations.

Plain concrete is a brittle material with limited ductility & low tensile strength, compressive strength and toughness. Internal micro-cracks are present in that concrete. Thus the concrete leads to heavy brittle fracture. The role of fibers is to bridge across the cracks & to provide some post-cracking ductility. The main purpose of fibers to increase the toughness of material, also increase tensile and flexural strength of concrete. A numbers of papers have already been published on the use of artificial fibers (steel fiber) and natural fibers(Hair fiber) in concrete and a considerable amount of research has been directed towards studying the various properties of concrete as well as reinforced concrete due to the addition of artificial fibers(steel fiber) and natural fibers(coir fiber).Addition of natural fiber (coir fiber) 0.20& 1.15% & artificial fiber (steel fiber) 0.75 to 1.50 % of total weight concrete. The studies were conducted on a M30 grade concrete mix design and tests have been carried out as per recommended procedures of relevant IS codes. The results are compared and conclusions are made.

Pages: 749 - 758
The purpose of this paper is to communicate between different Virtual-LANS and to learn more about VLAN Trunking and its operations. VLAN (virtual local area network) is used for configuring Layer-2 network. In this paper we have done an INTER-VLAN routing configured to connect different VLANs in a network whereas connecting in the same VLAN is also possible. INTER-VLAN ROUTING is also known as ROUTER-ON-A-STICK. Generally to communicate between two departments we need a Layer-3 device in place. Layer-3 switch is used on the network to configure INTER-VLAN routing without the need of a router. It is also configured to connect the different VLANS using some of the routing protocol, such as RIP and OSPF. We can also include a DHCP server in topology; the DHCP (dynamic host configuration protocol) is also invoked in this paper, to automatically configure an IP address for the each host. Application of this paper is enable a secure connection in the organization, such as information of higher level (management) is protected from the lower level (Workers) in an organization on a single network.
