Pages: 1 - 4
In this paper a general specific flow rate formula for lobe pumps is derived in terms of the pitch and deviation functions of a lobe. This formula applies to both circular and non-circular pitch curves. Pump lobes can be conveniently grouped according to the type of their deviation function. This formulation of Flow rate provides a systematic and efficient tool for lobe pump design. A few classes of new lobe pumps with circular pitch curves are designed and evaluated.

Year: 2017, Volume:4, Issue : 2
Pages: 5 - 9
Numerous research is going on for better design to improve performance of load carrying platform. Sandwich panels is one solution of this. Various types of designs are used for different applications. They are used in industries like aerospace, marine etc. They can also be used for general application like crane platform etc. They are mainly used to reduce weight of the element so as to make overall weight less. Various materials can be used to make such panel depending upon the requirement of weight reduction and cost effectiveness. Aim of this is to know variation of equivalent stress and deformation with the change of loading condition like distributed load and concentrated load for simply supported and fixed supported panels by ANSYS analysis. It is observed that concentrated loading gives more stress and deflection as compared to distributed loading. Simply supported panel gives less max stress as compared to fixed support.

Study of Sloshing Impact on the Tanker Wall for Different Fluids with Varying Accelerations

Mechanical Engineering
Year: 2017, Volume:4, Issue : 2
Pages: 10 - 16
In this Thesis three types of fluids are used to study the effect of sloshing in a tanker. Sloshing is the phenomena that occur in a partially filled tanker. Sloshing is the periodical oscillations in a tanker due to the external disturbances. In some stable conditions sloshing generally leads to cyclic stress and fatigue in thin walled tank structures. If that effect is nearer to the natural frequency of the tanker then beating phenomenon takes place which leads to severe collapse. Earlier various studies were made experimentally and numerically to analyze the effect of sloshing on the fuel tank. In this work transient analysis is performed using ANSYS 14.5. A Sequence of numerical experiments has been carried out to estimate the pressure developed over the tanker wall and the free surface displacement of the fluids from its mean static level. Simulations are compared for the three different fluids to validate the effect of sloshing on the tanker. This is performed for variable accelerations and the results are compared. It was found from CFD transient simulation of fluids interface with tanker periphery.

Year: 2017, Volume:4, Issue : 2
Pages: 17 - 31
Residual stress is the major cause for the failure of any component after manufacturing before put into original operation. Powder metallurgy (PM) is the most suitable technique certainly for mass production and up-scaling of the FGM’s. Functionally graded materials (FGMs) are advanced materials and their main characteristic is microstructure and composition variation over the volume of the specimen. In graded metal/ceramic components incompatible properties like strength, toughness and machinability of metal are coupled with heat, wear and corrosion resistance of ceramic in a single part. This advantage makes FGM’s very applicable in various applications. Now a day’s these types of materials have useful applications in variety of fields such as aircraft and aerospace industry, drilling and cutting, biomedical materials and engine components etc. Sintering is the main technique to manufacture these types of materials. During the sintering process, cooling of the specimen from sintering temperature to room temperature results in generation of thermal residual stresses within the material. These thermal stresses may cause crack propagation and failure of the material. Distribution analysis of these thermally induced stresses in the cylindrical metal-ceramic (Al2O3/SiC/TiC) Functionally Graded Material has been carried out in this thesis work. Finite element package ANSYS (Work-Bench 15.0) has been used in order to simulate the distribution of the thermal residual stresses in the materials. Influence of number of layers (4, 6 and 10 layers) and dimensional changes (24×24) has been investigated.

Pages: 32 - 43
All the successful achievements in science and technology in this world are due to human endeavor and curiosity for new inventions and developments. In this search there has been a considerable achievement in the pneumatic revolution. Nowadays, Pneumatics is widely adopted in various industries because it is light in weight, cheap, easy to handle and unlike hydraulic it is free from fire hazards. Hence, in this project pneumatics is being incorporated. The objective of the project is to incorporate Pneumatics into the manually Sand Core Compression Testing Machine, which has several advantages over the manually operated testing machine like it gives accurate readings, operation is quick, lighter, fluid medium used is safe, readily available, eco-friendly and the equipment is easy to handle.

Renewable Energy
Year: 2017, Volume:4, Issue : 2
Pages: 44 - 46
Parabolic troughs are concentrating solar collectors that concentrates solar energy onto a single focal line. The usage of parabolic concentrator for heating up the working fluid by passing it through the focal point of the parabola is focused. Usage of multiple parabolic troughs and certain modifications in the trough design are made to increase the overall collector efficiency. Different configurations of the absorber pipes and different types of working fluid that could be used are presented. The effectiveness of parabolic collector over other conventional collectors are compared analytically and experimentally. Different analytical and experimental methods for designing the functional parabolic setup is presented. Practical application of parabolic trough collectors in various areas which were experimented are reviewed.

21st century, the world of hurry and busy, the social media is always in buzz with accidents which will cause loss of life and property. Drunk and drive, using communication devises while driving and rash driving which are usually does by the carelessness of the user, on the other hand lack of quality in manufacturing are the causes of these accidents up to greater extinct. There are few safety equipments like airbags, breaks, seatbelts and bumpers etc. bumpers is a main fragment which is attached to front and rear of an automobile which protects passengers from severe collisions. The normal bumpers made of steel and plastic fails while greater impacts, and costly to replace after damage. This article deals with special type of bumper which works on electromagnetic repulsion. The design and modeling of electromagnetic bumper is made of METGLASS rod winded with copper wire which is connected to DC supply. The model is attached with sensor which detects the opposing vehicle, this triggers the electromagnet to generate the required electromagnetic field to repulse the force which is generated by vehicle moving with a greater velocity of 33m/sec. To achieve the supporting results the model is embedded with principles of momentum. This model on proper implementation will enhance the protection by improve the crash worthiness during collision, and also the weight can be altered so that to attain fuel economy and minimizes the loss life and property.

Mechanical Engineering
Year: 2017, Volume:4, Issue : 2
Pages: 57 - 60
To study different research papers related to thermal analysis of extended surfaces or projections of materials on the system (engine) called fins of air cooled IC engines. The fins are used to increase the heat transfer rate from the system to the surrounding by increasing the heat transfer area. Fins are used to cool various structures via the process of convection. Generally heat transfer by fins is basically limited by the design of the system. The heat transfer effect may be varied by changing material of different thermal conductivities, improvising engine geometry, increasing cross section area of fins, using perforations on fin and on CFD analysis of fins. Hence the aim of this paper is to study from different literature surveys that how heat transfer through extended surfaces and the heat transfer coefficient affected by changing cross-section this study is useful to know the better geometry and material for the fins for better engine cooling.

Pages: 61 - 66
The procedure with advancement of information surge has made it hard to get significant information on the web. In this proposed system, the necessity for practical Information Retrieval (IR) strategy has been extended. Document data contains huge information; user can easily get the information by using only title and keywords of document or information. We propose a fast and effective content-based document information retrieval system that retrieves the information from the actual content of a document. In proposed system, we use model of Latent Dirichlet Allocation that is used to extract major keywords for a given document. To improve the performance of system we use MongoDB database for the effective documents indexing. B-tree based indexing of MongoDB makes our system flexible, effective and fast than the previous system.
