This paper discussed literature review of different authors who tried different technique to implement the Substrate Integrated waveguide (SIW) cavity backed metamaterial antenna for various wireless applications. This study shows the various possible effective ways to implement the SIW based cavity to realize the high gain and high radiation efficiency whereas metamaterial structure like split ring resonators (SRR) to suppress the side lobes and to improve the bandwidth. It shows the effect of different type of geometry of slots with SIW based cavity antenna.
